From Hopeless to Hope-Filled

“Remember that whatever has happened in the past doesn’t have to define your future. We were once hopeless kids, now we are grade 12 graduates with a bright future and brilliant minds.”

These words were part of a high school graduation speech given by Misgana Demissie, a representative of the class of 2021 from Adams Thermal Academy Hosanna (ATAH) in Ethiopia.

“Hopeless” may sound like a strong word, but unfortunately it’s far too accurate of a description for the circumstances many low-income youth face in Ethiopia. They need an education to get out of poverty. But in a country where less than half of all students finish high school, the odds are even worse for the poor.

That’s where ATAH, a Kingdom Capital Fund ministry partner, comes into play. ATAH offers top quality, holistic K-12 Christian education that includes healthcare, transportation and a meal program for low-income children who are most likely to fall through the cracks.

Misgana said, “I will never forget the joy on my mother’s face [when I was enrolled at ATAH].” That’s because for many parents in the community, ATAH represents a lifeline to a better future for their children — a chance to move from hopeless
to hope-filled.

And the school’s reputation is well earned. In the last two years, 78 students have completed twelfth grade at ATAH. What’s even more amazing, 100% of them moved on to post-secondary education, with 96% of them receiving a full merit scholarship to university due to their outstanding entrance exam test results!

As a Kingdom Capital Fund supporter, you played a critical role in this amazing story. In 2016, through a series of entrepreneurial initiatives, KCF was able to multiply your gifts and donate $203,000 to sponsor children like Misgana at ATAH. Your generosity has been foundational in pulling these students out of poverty.

And, you’ve helped them to see God. As Misgana reflected on James 1:27 in regard to donors like you, she said, “You have shown us the love of Christ without having any blood relationship and without seeking anything from us. This all cannot be explained using words.”

Thank you for transforming these students’ lives by showing them the love of Christ.
